Johnston Historical Society
Non Profit
JSHS was created in 1994 and acquired, moved and renovated a 1902 house, a 1936 barn and a windmill, in 2003. That house museum, which was moved and restored using, in part, funds donated by the Chamber, is located next to the city library and the Simpson barn community center in the Johnston Commons park. JSHS provides tours of its 1902 Simpson House Museum, which include its exhibits on Johnston schools, the Simpson family, local businesses, military history and historic household items. JSHS also maintains archives, including family histories and local maps, for research use, and a robust website at johnstoniowahistorical.org. JSHS also provides presentations on local history at the Johnston library, to local schools and to other community organizations. Johnston Historical Society
